Draw/Draw HT/FT Bet: How Often It Lands and Where to Look
Level at the break, level at the end. This result is far more common in some leagues and price bands than others, and the half-time hinge explains most of the difference.

Draw/Draw is the quietest result on the half-time/full-time grid. Nobody celebrates it, and I think that is part of why it gets misread. Across 75,530 matches in 22 European leagues, it landed in 15.7% of them, which works out at fair odds of 6.36 before any bookmaker margin is added.
That headline rate hides a wide spread. Some leagues sit well above it, and the pre-match draw price moves it more than anything else in this study. Every pick on my today's HT/FT picks page starts from base rates like these. Below I go through where Draw/Draw clusters, how the draw price shifts it, and what happens to a match that reaches the interval level.
01Second tiers in Spain and Italy lead the Draw/Draw table
The chart shows the eight highest and eight lowest Draw/Draw rates among the 22 leagues. Segunda División and Serie B share the top spot at 19.6%, with the Super League Greece just behind at 19.4% and Ligue 2 at 18.5%. At the bottom sit Scottish League One at 13.0% and the Eredivisie at 13.5%, with the Premier League at 13.6% close by.
The pattern fits what I see on the pitch. Second divisions in southern Europe often play cagey, compact football where a goal is a real event, and the second half rarely opens up. Open, transitional leagues break the deadlock far more readily.

For a bettor, league is a filter rather than a selection. A Segunda División match still fails to finish Draw/Draw most of the time. What league tells you is where the starting point sits before you look at the fixture itself.
02Short draw prices push Draw/Draw towards one in four
This table is where the market moves most. When the major-bookmaker draw price was under 3.00, Draw/Draw landed 23.0% of the time across 2,867 matches, fair odds 4.34. At 4.50 and above it fell to 8.6% across 8,641 matches, fair odds 11.61. The bands in between step down cleanly, from 20.4% in the 3.00–3.24 band to 12.5% in the 3.80–4.49 band.
The last column explains why. Under 3.00, the match was level at half-time 49.6% of the time. At 4.50+ that dropped to 32.9%. A short draw price usually signals low goal expectation as well as evenly matched sides, so these two effects overlap, and I cannot cleanly separate them.
| Draw price | Matches | Draw/Draw | 95% range | Fair odds | Level at HT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| <3.00 | 2,867 | 23.0% | ±1.5 | 4.34 | 49.6% |
| 3.00–3.24 | 13,173 | 20.4% | ±0.7 | 4.89 | 47.0% |
| 3.25–3.49 | 21,516 | 16.7% | ±0.5 | 5.99 | 43.1% |
| 3.50–3.79 | 18,182 | 15.4% | ±0.5 | 6.51 | 40.8% |
| 3.80–4.49 | 11,092 | 12.5% | ±0.6 | 7.97 | 37.7% |
| 4.50+ | 8,641 | 8.6% | ±0.6 | 11.61 | 32.9% |
The 95% ranges are tight in the big middle bands, ±0.5 in the 3.25–3.49 group, and wider at ±1.5 in the shortest band, where the sample is smaller. I trust the direction of the slope completely, and the exact figure at the short end slightly less.
03The half-time hinge decides whether a level match holds
Overall, 41.5% of matches were level at half-time and 37.9% of those were still level at the end. This chart splits that second step by draw price, and it is the part I find most revealing. With the draw under 3.00, 46.4% of half-time draws stayed level, while 29.0% turned into home wins and 24.7% into away wins.
At 4.50+ the picture flips. Only 26.1% of half-time draws held, and 51.2% became home wins. When one side is clearly stronger, a level interval is usually a delay rather than a balance. The favourite's coach changes shape, brings on attackers, and the second half belongs to them.

| Home win (Draw/Home) | Draw (Draw/Draw) | Away win (Draw/Away) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| <3.00 | 29.0% | 46.3% | 24.7% |
| 3.00–3.24 | 30.8% | 43.5% | 25.7% |
| 3.25–3.49 | 33.5% | 38.7% | 27.8% |
| 3.50–3.79 | 35.6% | 37.7% | 26.7% |
| 3.80–4.49 | 41.0% | 33.3% | 25.7% |
| 4.50+ | 51.2% | 26.1% | 22.7% |
My one caveat for the whole study: these are historical frequencies, not a forecast, and over a few hundred bets your own results can drift a long way from them. HT/FT prices also carry a much heavier margin than 1X2, so fair odds are a floor, not a target.
HT/FT checklist
- Check the draw price first. Draw/Draw rises from 8.6% at a draw price of 4.50+ to 23.0% under 3.00. If the draw is long, the case for this bet is usually weak before anything else is considered.
- Compare against fair odds. Treat the fair odds as the minimum, such as 4.34 under 3.00 or 5.99 in the 3.25–3.49 band. HT/FT margins are heavy, so a price only just above fair is rarely worth it.
- Weigh the league's rhythm. Segunda División and Serie B sit at 19.6% while Scottish League One is at 13.0%. Use league as a nudge to the base rate, not as a reason to bet on its own.
